A Discussion with Nic Stone, the author of Dear Martin
On March 25th we attended a lecture held in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo. During the lecture we had the chance to meet and talk to Nic Stone, famous American writer and author of the novel Dear Martin, which we had as reading material in our English Creative Club last semester.
The lecture was attended by workers of the U.S. Embassy and many students from around the country. Nic talked about how we, as young people, can discover power within ourselves and told us about her own experiences and life philosophy. She gave us some very useful advice and showed us the importance of things like personal agency, openness, wonder, elasticity and rebellion, things that we can all apply to our personal lives, our interaction with others and activism, with the help of which we make this world a better place.
We also discussed her novel „Dear Martin“, and the continuing fight against racism, prejudice and bigotry. At the end of the lecture, Nic answered some of our questions about a diverse range of topics.
We believe we all left this lecture with a sense of newly discovered confidence and courage. We are all looking forward to a smilar occasion.

Diskusija sa Nic Stone autoricom romana Dear Marin
U saradnji sa Američkom ambasadom u Sarajevu 25.03.2021. godine prisustvovali smo predavanju tokom kojeg smo imali priliku upoznati i razgovarati sa Nic Stone, slavnom američkom spisateljicom i autoricom romana Dear Martin.
Ovaj izvanredan roman smo u prošlom polugodištu imali priliku da pročitamo u našem Kreativnom klubu Engleskog jezika.
Predavanju su prisustvovali uposlenici Ambasade S.A.D. i mnogi učenici iz cijele države. Autorica Nic Stone je govorila o tome kako mi, kao mladi ljudi, možemo otkriti moć u nama samima i pričala nam o svojim vlastitim iskustvima i životnoj filozofiji. Dala nam je neke vrlo korisne životne savjete i ukazala nam na važnost stvari poput lične angažiranosti, otvorenosti, čuđenju, fleksibilnosti i buntovnosti, stvari koje svi možemo koristiti u svom privatnom životu, u interakciji sa drugima, te u aktivizmu, uz čiju pomoć činimo ovaj svijet boljim.
Također smo razgovarali o njenom romanu Dear Martin te o stalnoj borbi protiv rasizma, predrasudama i neukosti.
Na kraju predavanja, Nic je odgovorila na neka od naših pitanja koja su se odnosila na širok raspon tema.
Vjerujem da smo svi sa ovog predavanja otišli sa osjećajem novootkrivenog samopuzdanja i hrabrosti, te da se svi radujemo još jednoj sličnoj prilici.
